Drive along just about any road in America and you’re sure to see one thing… a Ford F-150 pickup truck. That’s no surprise given one sold about every 29 seconds in 2018. Beginning with the original F series in 1948, the truck has always represented the heart of Ford’s brand.
Using the right oil is important for any vehicle, but especially so for a workhorse like the F-150.
Below you’ll find the best oil for each engine type available for the 13th gen Ford F-150.
2.7-liter EcoBoost, 3.0-liter Diesel and 3.5-liter EcoBoost
Introduced in 2011, the EcoBoost engines use turbo chargers to match the power of larger motors while using less fuel and reducing emissions. While available across Ford’s lineup, the EcoBoost has had a particular impact on the F-150. Better gas mileage has made it a more practical daily driver for many people.
Both the 2.7-liter and 3.5-liter EcoBoost engines, as well as the 3.0-liter diesel use the same oil type. Ford recommends Motorcraft SAE 5W-30 Synthetic Blend motor oil. It currently runs about $6.50 a quart.
3.3-liter and 5.0-liter
Both the 3.3L V6 and 5.0L V8 workhorse use the same motor oil. Ford recommends Motorcraft SAE 5W-20 Synthetic Blend as the best oil. It currently runs about $11 per quart, or you can save a fair chunk of change with the comparable AmazonBasics SAE-5W-20, which is $17.99 for 5 quarts.
